As Independence Day comes to a close I think back on all of the liberating moments in our history. Some were great victories for our nation, namely the writing of the Declaration of Independence, victory in the war of independence and the abolishment of slavery. But others were a giant leap backwards for all mankind such as, the Women’s Liberation Movement of the 1960’s.
Independence Day holds great significance for in me in that it reflects my feelings regarding my being apprehended by Christ Jesus. Some believe that being a Christian has sentenced one to a life of servitude, and they are most certainly right. But what they don’t understand is that whom the son sets free, is free indeed. I have been set free from sin. ” And having been set free from sin, I have become a slave to righteousness”. Romans 6:18
As the day closes I am deeply humbled by the gift of righteousnes granted me by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am thankful that He sacraficed all that I may be free.
