I tried my hand at a homemade cake for the first time. The recipe that I used was from HillbillyHousewife.com. It was called 1-2-3-4 cake. It came out delicious. My son’s birthday is this week and our family tradition is that whenever someone has a birthday they get to choose what kind of cake mom will bake for them. They also get to choose the dinner for that day. My son wants an ice-cream cake. I will use the 1-2-3-4 recipe for his cake. I also tried another new recipe which was spanish rice and it was delicious as well.
Also I have introduced a nature study into my 07-08 lesson plan. The children have been spending more time outdoors purposefully interacting with nature. They are so curious about what is outside. The nature notebook is something that I enjoy keeping. I enjoy my daughters sketches as well. She has been sketching spiders since we have been reading Charlotte’s Web this summer.
I’ve been reading through the Charlotte Mason’s book. Some parts I have skipped. I won’t apply every principle to my children’s education, but I do see some very valuable techniques that I’ve never thought of, including studying science through nature.
I am very excited to truly see all that my children will take away from their learning experiences this year.
