A Closer Walk With God

A close walk with the Lord is an important part of a believer’s life. Once a person chooses this walk his or her life is never the same. The choice to follow or to continue to follow the Lord is a daily choice.

“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”. Joshua 24:15

Some days may be more difficult than others, to make the choice to walk with God. But we must pray in advance that “God may turn our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep the commands, decrees and regulations he gave our fathers.” 1 Kings 8:58

The Bible tells us that a close walk with God is something that must be maintained and that it is something that is required. “I am God Almighty, walk before me blameless”. Not only are we to walk closely with the Lord, but to also be blameless before the Lord. That requires taking a hard look an ones self and asking, some hard questions. It requires knowing Gods standard and then using that standard as a measure for your life. It requires identifying sin and confessing it. For King David said “If I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me” Psalm 66:18

Instead we must confess those sins so that there is nothing hidden that will hinder our walk with God. “The Lord holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards, the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.” Proverbs 2:7-8

God does not ask us for much in comparison to the laundry list we often bring to him. “What does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” Deuteronomy 10:12

If you have given your life to the Lord but would like a closer walk with God, begin by confessing any hidden sin. Tell Him that you now desire to walk with him. Tell him that today you choose Him.

Although I post about these topics I don’t always get it right. But the fact that I know the right thing to do gives me a chance at becoming better.

Too true, Hadias! And it’s when we feel the farthest away from Him that we should pray more, & learn to see Him in the small things. That has helped me on lonely days, or when my frustration level has been reached!
