The Children’s Shade Garden

It doesn’t look like much now, but if you could see what I see you would smile. I see a beautiful shade garden with a cozy bench. This will soon be a lovely place to sit and talk with the children after a long school day.

This area under these two oak trees was full of weeds and pine cones. We have gotten it cleared out and I have added five Hostas that were divided earlier this year. Hostas are beautiful perennials and when they grow they can really fill up a flower bed.

I also planted one Lantana plant which will also grow and spread. Finally the children sprinkled some Bachelor’s button, White Yarrow and Blue Morning Glory seeds. I don’t usually have a high percentage of success when direct sowing seeds but we will see what happens.

I will post updates of the progress of the the ‘Children’s Shade Garden’ as time goes by. We won’t see a major difference until next spring when everything that we’ve sown this year re-emerges.

What have you been doing this summer?
