Baby Steps to Getting Rid of Debt

Mrs. Micah started a personal finance challenge that admonishes you to:

“Find one step you can take to make your financial system better or more organized.”

I began this month with trying reduce my debt.

Paid off my minivan $1,641.80 (yay)
Savings $450 a month

Disconnected my home telephone
Savings $42.00 a month

Got a great deal on internet from Time Warner Cable
No Savings, but our rate will remain the same versus increasing from $24.99 to $49.99 a month.

Purchased Walmart Gift Cards for hubby’s gas
Savings 3 cents off per gallon of gas when purchased using the card

In the works:

Reviewing our term life insurance policy. We have gotten some life insurance quotes and it seems as though we may be able to get more coverage for close to the same premium we are currently paying. Stay tuned for more on this.

Things I have done this month to get more organized

Consolidated all of our checking and savings accounts down from five to three (so much easier to manage)

I would love to hear what you have done to make your financial system better or more organized.
