A Proverbs Wife

Another Reason Why I Use Coupons

Proverbs 31:13-15 (King James Version)

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

Using coupons is getting easier and easier each time I shop. I’ve built up the nerve to notify the customer behind me that I will be using coupons if it appears that the cashier will require a managers assistance.

I’ve also built up the nerve to take my time.

This morning while shopping in CVS, I was the only customer in the store. The cashier drummed her fingers against the counter as if I were holding up the line. I had two transaction which went really smoothly in my opinion.

As I removed my staple from my coupons I flipped through them to double check that they were all there. She said, “Just give them to me… I’ll give you back the ones that don’t match up.”

I replied, “Just checking to make sure that I didn’t leave anything out.” She began tapping finger against the counter. I figured eaither I was taking to long or a line had formed. I looked behind me to see if it was the latter, but still no one else was there. Just me.

Since she had given me the impression that she was in a hurry, I was even more determined to double check my stack.

I’d hate to purchase an item, then realize that I forgot a coupon. A mistake like that would cause me to end up paying more OOP than I calculated. It would result in more time in line, since I’d need to return the item and then repurchase it. Been there done that. I purposely shop during off peak hours so that I don’t have to rush or be rushed.

So the moral of my story is this…Don’t let the cashier rush you. Take your time. There is more than one register and (should be) more than one cashier.

Here is the rundown of what my money bought.

CVS $7.64 OOP
$6 ECB earned
I made $0.45

this includes a FREE 8×10 and 50 FREE prints from CVS

KROGER $5.41
(1) additional 4pk. of Conttonelle not pictured)
$145.oo worth of items for : $17.75
Total time spent shopping: 1 hr. & 45 min. over two days

You’re doing really great with your coupon saving!

  2. Hey Tami,

January papers will be chock full of coupons. It will be a good month to rebuild your coupons stash.

Also ask around for coupons. My MIL throws hers away every week. I asked her to save them for me and she did. It’s that simple. She even gets coupons from her employer that she saves for me as well.

Let people know that you use them they’d be glad to pass them along.

  3. Hey Melinda

I started by just purchasing three Sundays worth of newspapers.

I kept them clipped and organized and as other bloggers posted about deals, sales and scenarios, I just followed along.

I set aside a small budget at first $10. I made my first CVS transaction and I was hooked. Each week I put away $10 from the grocery budget and added whatever I saved from using coupons. The savings grew and so did my surplus grocery budget.

I post deals and scenarios here weekly. Just pick a store and try the scenario. I only post those that my family uses.

Wow! Really nice! I haven’t done a whole lot of CVS or Walgreens shopping. I’ve lost the motivation to take the time do those shopping trips. Now I only go when I have to use up my ECBs or there’s something I really need. I need to do some stocking up again so I need to get down to it and go through my coupons. It’s just that I much rather work on my avon biz or play on the computer. LOL

  5. good for you! i do the same. it is their job after all!

you did fantastic! i have been low on qs lately so… not too many great deals.

  6. You’re couponing really amazes me, seriously, I am just in awe of the deals you are getting. I want to do this too, where should I start?

Also, shame on the cashier. Having worked retail for som long, bad service is really a pet peeve of mine.
