Sometimes it’s hard to stay focused on reading the Bible for long periods of time when you have children. That’s just a plain and simple fact. If there are some of you out there that have trained you children not to make a peep for hours at a time, please email me your secret.
For the rest of us…we have to get creative in getting the word of God written onto the blank pages of our minds. This begins with stepping outside of the box in our methods.
Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to write down our vision so that we can see it and be invigorated to move to action. An invigorating vision is exactly what I need when I don’t feel like facing another day of being the referee, chef, maid and chauffeur. But when I read the scripture I am reminded that it won’t always be this way.
So how do I keep God’s word on my mind?
Here are a few of the things that work for me.
1- Write a verse on the bathroom mirror at the beginning of each week. Every time you go to look in the mirror, you can meditate on God’s word.
2- Begin writing your favorite verses on index cards. Once you have at least 3 or 4 choose one to carry around in your purse or wallet each week.
3- Many phones allow you to add screen savers or personal messages or your cell phone. Use that space to insert Biblical text.
4- Add a verse to your laptop or desktop screen saver.
5-Write your verse on top of your daily To-Do list. Now every time you look at your list, you can glance at your verse.
Do you have some tips to share? I’d love to add your ideas to this list.
