Continental Beef
6T butter or margarine
1 cup minced onion
1 lb fresh mushrooms
2 ½ lbs beef chuck cut into cubes (stew beef, round steak OK)
8 oz. can tomato sauce
2 t Worcestershire sauce
1 T granulated sugar
2 t paprika
2 t salt
¼ t pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
Serving day:
1 cup sour cream
2 cups rice or 16 oz. buttered noodles
Original yields 6-8 servings
Cooking day:
Melt 2 T butter and brown mushrooms and onions. Remove and add more butter (1-2 T) and brown beef. Put beef, mushrooms, and onions in crock pot. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours. Just before serving add sour cream to beef mixture. Stir until smooth and heated through. Do not boil.
Double this recipe and freeze (minus sour cream). Thaw completely, heat in saucepan and add sour cream.
