Today I’d like to welcome and introduce you to Tracy from Hall of Fame Moms. Tracy has been blogging since 2008 and has agreed to let us pick her brain.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a Christian wife/mom. I homeschool my boys (4&6 yrs old), blog professionally and work at home as a part-time childcare provider. I’m also very frugal and am always trying to fit our “life” in our not-so-big house.
When did you start blogging? How did you get into blogging and why?
I actually started blogging to earn money from home by focusing on affiliate marketing in 2008. However, I was coming from a more “business” angle and wasn’t really skilled in that arena. I received some business coaching and was told that I appeared to be doing the “mom blogger” thing (which wasn’t my goal in the beginning). I considered that critique and found it actually quite liberating to go in that direction since that was really my phase in life right now. I could see how God was directing my steps. I went with it and my blog has grown a lot since then and I’ve had much fruit from my labor.
What is your blog about and why should people read it?
My focus is the stay at home mom and the work at home mom and the mom who is trying to juggle it all. So I guess its for all moms out there, but not just the moms. Its really family oriented. My blog reflects what is going on in my life and my struggles to make things work in a home where I’m not only wife and mom but also needed to bring in some extra income to help with finances- all the while as I’m trying to manage my home and homeschool my sons.
What would you say inspires the content of your posts?
The fact that being a frugal, work at home, homeschooling, stay at home mom is such a full time job that if I want to blog – my blog has to be about what I’m about these day.
A lot of people are interested in blogging for money, what are some tips for people who would like to make money from blogging? What are some realistic expectations?
Well, its not easy. Especially if you know nothing about the technical aspects of blogging, SEO and making affiliate marketing work. You can’t just throw up a website and fill it with affiliate links and get people to buy. You really need to do your homework and find a niche that your passionate about. Without passion about your topic, you probably won’t stick with it and you have to stick with “this” and “wait” for the results you want.
Everyone has a favorite/least favorite post. Name yours and why?
I don’t know. Might be one of the earliest ones, when I had the least experience or could be one I wrote on a hard-to-swallow topic that was truthful, just not easy to say or be read.
Thanks so much Tracy for letting us get to know you.
