Balancing Your Time With Your Responsibilities

I’m wife, mommy, home school teacher, blogger and business owner which essentially means…

I have full plate.

With so many responsibilities I have to make a concerted effort to manage my time and manage it well.

My idea of managing my time well is being able to get a few tasks done in each area of my life.

Each of the above roles are important to me but in order for me to do them with enjoyment I work hard to make sure that the responsibilities of one area don’t overtake the others.

Here are some basic strategies that help me balance:

1- Get up early.

When folks say, the early bird gets the worm, it’s true. I get up early during the week which helps me get in a healthy breakfast and get the brunt of my business tasks done before the kids awake.

2- Make a plan.

I have plans for everything from home making to my social media interactions. Having plans give me focus and allow me to be more productive. A plan gives me an end destination and goals to work toward.

3- Be flexible.

I know…I just got through telling you to make a plan. Plans are great but always be open to change. Just last month, I was hit with an idea that I considered putting off. Why? Because I had plans. Plans that I didn’t want to break, but I decided to be flexible, follow my instinct and it resulted in and amazing partnership with several companies and bloggers.

4- Ask for help.

I learned years ago, that the sign of a great leader is one who knows when to delegate. I ask my family, bloggers and companies for help all the time. Why? Because I’m smart enough to know that I don’t know everything nor can I do everything. If you want to be successful at balancing multiple obligations learn to ask for help early and often.

5- Cry sometime.

If you are like me, you’re and over achiever. You like to set goals and set’em high. When you get to the point where you realize that you’ve bitten off more than you can chew, just accept it, cry it out if you have to and get over it. I’m dead serious. I let out a good cry quarterly and I feel all the better for it. I set high goals that I don’t always reach and sure…I get disappointed. But after a good 10 minute cry, all is well again in my world.

If you feel like your life is busy…welcome to the club. Now that you’ve accepted it. What are you going to do about it?

I share details on how I set up my schedules and how you can too, in my eBook. If you want to get some semblance of organization in your days, check it.
