This year my family and I made a commitment to donate to the food pantry every month in 2011. We’ve been donating since last but wanted to make an intentional effort to do it EVERY MONTH for 12 consecutive months.
Now I’ll be the first to say that I am wishy-washy, flighty and not good with commitments. Except if it involves faith, marriage and parenting. Anything else is up to chance. But I really want to stick with this challenge but I felt myself losing interest in the 12 month thing and considered just collecting everything and then donating when I got a chance. That’s how I’d do it last year, but I always felt uneasy about the donation sitting there while there were hungry people who could be eating the food.
This is the reason behind the commitment. I’ll admit that I began falling back into my old habit and skipped my April donation. My excuse(s)…
- We were in D.C. on vacation the first weekend in April
- It was Mother’s Day the Sunday I was supposed to donate and I visited my in-laws church
- Then we had Easter which I also visited my in-laws church
and before I knew it the month was done and no donation. 🙁
This month I am getting back on track because I know what it means to be a hungry child. This month I am participating in the ConAgra Child Hunger Ends Here campaign via Collective Bias. The Child Hunger Ends Here campaign is a collective effort on the part of ConAgra and families to do all we can to end childhood hunger.
When you buy the following specially marked products and enter the codes on the labels at ChildHungerEndsHere.com, each code will go towards 1 meal for a hunger child.
I put together a pictorial showing you how easy it is to get involved.
