9 God Honoring New Year’s Resolutions

1. Put God and His purpose ahead of everything and everyone in your life.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:1, 2 KJV)

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:16-18 KJV)

2. Live your life in a way that honors God.

3. Evaluate each action to make certain they are motivated by good and not evil.

4. Read your Bible every day so you can get to know God even more.

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (Colossians 1:10 KJV)

5. Accept God’s forgiveness for repented sins in your past.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (Colossians 1:14 KJV)

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (Colossians 2:13, 14 KJV)

6. Become better prepared for the trials of life by studying the Bible and attending Bible studies to increase your faith in the power of God in your life.

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6, 7 KJV)

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15 KJV)

7. Begin searching the scripture to identify Gods promises for His goodness in my life.

….write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. (Habakkuk 2:2)

And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. (Deuteronomy 6:9)

8. Become more like Christ in my thoughts, words, character and actions.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: (Colossians 3:5-10 KJV)

9. Read and follow the Bible pertaining to Biblical order of the family.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. (Colossians 3:18-20 KJV)
