I posed a question on Facebook asking what is the hardest part of being a wife and many of you said, submission.
The biggest struggle was with submitting when you perceive your husband is making the wrong decision. This is very hard for women who view themselves as intelligent and capable. In fact, it will be contradictory to every fiber of your being to submit to a decision you think will be detrimental.
So how do we submit when we are absolutely sure our husbands leadership lacks wisdom?
1. Understand that submission is about honoring God not simply obeying your husband.
You are essentially submitting to God and his will. God isn’t asking you to make your husband your God what He’s asking is, “do you trust Him?”. To submit to our husbands is to fully trust Gods plan for marriage no matter how scary it seems. When we decide to trust God we realize my next point.
2. Your husbands bad decisions don’t override God’s will for your life.
Let me clear the air here. As your husband is maturing in his faith, wisdom, knowledge and understanding of who God is and who He’s calling your husband to be, your husband will make bad decisions. This is something you must come to terms with. Your husband isn’t Jesus and if he’s given his life to Christ, he’s still maturing. As he seeks wisdom, he’ll need your support more than anything. While he’s wading through the voice of the enemy, your dialogue and his on inner thoughts, he’s struggling to hear the voice of God. This is your chance to magnify Gods voice by speaking words of support and encouragement to your man. Words like, “I trust your motives for our family” and “I believe in you”.
I don’t want to make this post super long so I’ll link you to this post I wrote on submission in 2010 and then I’ll leave you with a video I made on the subject of submission. After watching the video, let’s talk more about this in the comment section.
