Things To Pray Over | Prayer Journal

God really has had me in my feelings for a few months now. My spirit has been so unsettled about so many things, but I know this season is refining me into the women God wants me to be for what He has prepared for me.

He’s taking me through some situations that are tough, but good for me and prayer has been my saving grace. Knowing I can seek Him for strength to make it through or wisdom to know what to do gives me so much comfort.

How to Have an Effective Prayer Life

Prayer of Provision

Once you accept Christ into your heart, there are often times when we wonder about prayer.

Most of the time, our prayers are an endless array of words spun up to the Lord.  While that is true, prayer as described by Webster’s dictionary is a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God

I would go a step further and say that prayer is the practice of the presence of God. Prayer is our response to Him.

In prayer, our character is molded and shaped. Think of prayer as preparation for the battle ahead. Communication with God is what aligns our hearts toward our eternal Father.

Prayer is worshipping and honoring God, and it is our incense offered up to Him.

Here is a basic guide to prayer:

  • ADORATION: Open your prayer by adoring God.  Start by simply praising Him for all that He is.

  • CONFESSION: Confession of sins. Ask for a cleaning of your heart, mind, body & soul.

  • THANKSGIVING: Give God thanks for everything He has provided for you. Go throughout your home and lay your hands on things and thank him for richly blessing you.

  • SUPPLICATION: This is where you present your requests to God. Ask Him to provide for your needs.

Now that you know more about prayer and have a basic model for it how do we maintain a healthy prayer life make our relationship with God flourish?

prayer for my weaknesses

Below are some examples:

  1. All relationships flourish on compliments. Compliment God. Psalm 100:4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving and with praise. Give thanks to Him and praise His name.

  2. All relationships thrive on active listening. Be still and listen for His voice. Set apart all distractions & quiet yourself before him.  Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.

  3. All relationships develop with consistent communication.  Be consistently devoted to God. Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are-yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Unless we are in constant communication we aren’t sure of who God is.)

  4. All relationships require honesty.  1 John 1: 7-9 If we walk in the light, as he is the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

We as believers of Jesus need to keep daily accounts with God through regular cleansing, which is why need to confess our sins and seek repentance.

Prayer is where the physical mirrors the spiritual.

  • Our breathing is equal to prayer with God.

  • Our drinking is equal to worshipping with God.

  • Our eating is equal to reading the word of God.

  • Our exercise is equal to acts of service.

Prayer changes the one praying because as you are in the presence of God, you lay before Him your complete self in total dependence.

6 Steps to an Effective Prayer Life -

In total abandonment, our hearts are quieted and our pride is stripped bare. It’s in this intimate moment where we are face to face with our creator.

It is within this moment that we are looking inside of ourselves and seeking a relationship with God.

Prayer is communication with our true savior.

The Importance of Family Prayer

PraiseReverence, Adoration, Yielding, Everlasting, and Results is an acronym for prayer.

When we come before God we give him praise for who he is. We go to God giving him reverence and adoration by honoring God, and thanking Him, respecting who He is.  We are yielding to every word he has to say by listening and obeying.

God desires that we ask in faith for the desires of our heart, for protection for our family, our lives, our homes, our children, our finances, over our meals and the list goes on and on. In general, prayer is important and should be one of the foundational tenants of our faith.

Matthew 18:20 (KJV) says “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

pray days

As your children go school make sure you cover them by praying for their protection, the students and the teachers. Praying with your children before they go every day is great as well; it will give them the desire to do this because it teaches the importance of prayer. You can even download out printable list of the top 12 prayers to pray for children for some ideas.

Before you eat any meal, pray over your food. By doing this you are asking God to take anything out that intended to harm you, and thank him for the meal you are able to eat, because a lot of people are not able to.

Psalm 50:15 says “And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.”

Pray for your husband that a hedge of protection will cover him as he leaves home, and that they will have God’s favor to surround him like a shield. We’ve already shared 7 ways to pray for your spouse earlier this year if you need some ideas on what to pray.

Before you go to bed at night it is good to pray before bedtime, that the angels will cover your family, your home, neighbors, town from hurt, harm or danger.

pray together

Psalm 91:11 says “For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways”.

Also pray for those in authority and all our leaders

1 Timothy  2:1-4 says “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,  for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, whose desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Growing up, our dad made sure prayer was a part of our daily duties and he explained the importance of prayer as a family and the importance of prayer as an individual. As I got older and had my own family, I made prayer part of my lifestyle.

When you make your request known before God, it is important to pray in faith, not in doubt or unbelief.

Mark 11: 22-24 says” And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Father in Jesus Name, I pray for those reading this that you will bless them abundantly above ALL they can ask or think.

I ask that you strengthen them, give them boldness and crazy faith, that whatever they are desiring in their heart that is in Your Will, that you give them the desires of their heart.

I pray that when they come boldly before you that they won’t be shy, timid or afraid for you have not given them the spirit of fear, but of power love and a sound mind.

I pray that you cover them with your blood and surround them with angels of protection. Thank you in advance for financial freedom,  supernatural debt cancellation, healing in their mind, body and souls, preferential treatment, policies and rules changed, petitions granted, battles won in which they do not have to fight ALL because the favor of God in Jesus Name Amen.
