On the Bright Side

I am really excited about choosing a winner for my giveaway. Even more than waiting to find out if I won anything. I truly think that it’s much better to give than to receive.

While visiting blogs and entering giveaways I came across a women who lived without an oven for 8 months. I’m planning to do without my oven for about four months. I’ve been using my crock pot and stove top to prepare meals and it really hasn’t been an inconvenience.

What I miss though, is baked breads and cookies. I have some baked banana bread in the deep freezer that I will let thaw to room temperature today. I also have about a 1/2 pound of cookie dough which I will probably take to my mother in laws house on Thanksgiving to bake for a Thanksgiving dessert.

The good thing about not having an oven is that I can fill my pantry with flour, baking powder, cornmeal, lasagna noodles and any other staple I’d normally us in the oven for the next couple of months. I’ll also make ice box biscuits & cookie doughs as if I still had an oven and stock the freezer.

    Hey Sallie~

My oven stopped working. I can still use the stove but the oven rings won’t heat. I checked into getting it fixed and the part that I need is about $80 that’s just for the bottom ring. So if I add in a repairman and an additional ring for the broiler that heats the top,I’d probably be better off getting another stove.

So I’m going to tough it out until after the hoildays. We have 2 of my children’s birthdays, both my inlaws birthday’s, Christmas and New Years to fund so we don’t want to add a new stove to the list.

Not to mention $600 in car repairs over the past 2 months. We are going to see if we can wait and find the best deal possible. I’m pretty sure we’ll find a steal of deal with ‘Black Friday’ fast approaching.

  2. I love your signature.. did you pick it up at the livesignature place?

I must have missed it somewhere but are you doing without your oven because it broke or because you just want to try and see what you can do without it?

    God bless,
