Nina at ‘Raising Butterflies’ has left the following comment in response to my post “HomeMaking 101“:
I’m always inspired by your practicality Hadias. I love to plan and make lists, but my downfall is in referring BACK to those lists. That said, we do have a school routine of sorts. Without one, there wouldn’t be much learning going on here. I’m impressed that your children start school on their own — my girls seldom do. The thing is, I like for us to spend time together in the Bible and prayer before their other subjects, therefore if I’m not ready when they are, I hold them up, since we all do Bible together. I like your no housework after 5pm rule too, except HOW do you find time to get it all done during the
day with school going on?
Nina thank you for leaving your comment. I will do my best to explain my home maintainance schedule for you. Please keep in mind that this schedule is achieved through dilligent discipline on my part and on the part of my children. Also keep in mind that home maintainance is an ongoing process that is never complete. We don’t get everything done 100% of the time but we do our best.
The first thing I do is began with was a goal. My goal for cleaning to have is an neat and clean home. Neat and clean for each person is different. For me it is clean and clear surfaces, clean and clear floors and a fresh smelling home. In order to achieve a clutter free space things must be put away. And in order for things to smell fresh they must be clean.
The quarterly job schedule are things that don’t need to be done daily. This includes jobs such as deep cleaning the inside of the refrigerator, wiping the tops of the kitchen cabinets and steam cleaning the carpets.
A typical Monday in my house for my children would look like this:
Wake-up 8am
Bathroom
Make beds & Tidy room
Math (20 min)
Breakfast (30 min)
Kitchen chores (30 min)
Start laundry
Bible Study (30 min)
History or Science (15 min)
Literature (15 min)
Handwriting (10 min)
Outdoors (30 min-1 hr)
Lunch (30 min)
Kitchen chores (30 min)
Afternoon jobs: sweep & mop all floors, dry, fold and put away laundry (1 hr)
Self directed school work (1-2 hrs.)
Free Time (until dinner)
Dinner (30 min)
Kitchen Clean-up (30 min)
Relax until bedtime

I have definately had those days. The pile of laundry on the couch and the unexpected guest.
A workable laundry schedule was one of the first things that I had to work into my schedule. At one point I was doing laundry 6-7 days a week and there were always clothes lingering somewhere in in the process of being washed, dried, folded or put away. It was just too much.

I await the days when all of my children are in at least teens. But for now I simply relish the dream of having hours of free time.
I like working at night when it’s quiet as well. It’s something about being able to work uninterupted. I don’t do it that ofetn because I dont have the luxury of sleeping in.
Your comment gave me a glimmer of hope in which to set my sights on.
Thank you both for stopping by.

Typically, on Mondays, I am still trying to catch up with laundry. So like today, my laundry was piled high on my couch. And I got company! I was so embarrassed, but they were nice about it 🙂
We rarely do school on Mondays, unless my weekend was easy-going enough for me to get everything I like to do, done. 😉 This weekend my dh took me out on a date on Friday, and so it was rather hectic catching everything up on Saturday. But I am not complaining!! haha 🙂
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are more of our school days, usually.

I am truly impressed Hadias! I admire your ability to to be so governed. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for 7 years now. My daughter is a sophmore in college and my son is in high school so I’m at a very different phase in life than you. I relish having so much free time again.
I actually don’t lift a finger prior to noon. Those hours I devote to me. Coffe, reading, blogging, calls to mom and sister, whatever, it’s definitely me time.
I’ve never been a morning person, even when I worked outside of the the house. I love to wash 1 o’clock in the morning or mop the floors. I like working in the still of the night when everybody else is asleep.

@Shelia,
I thought that I was weird, because I enjoy doing things at night time when everyone’s asleep. As long as hubby is in a deep sleep (wink wink) I am free to do whatever; making sure I don’t make a whole heap of noise…lol
