A Proverbs Wife

Do It Yourself Bathroom Update

We’ve been our home close to ten years and I can remember moving in and falling in love with the newness of everything.  I loved the crisp freshly painted walls. I adored the recently vacuumed carpet and it’s visible vacuum lines. But all of that was just a fleeting memory once we had three babies within a four year time span. Along came the mess and mishaps of life with toddlers.

For the first five years I fussed at my toddlers for leaving hand prints on the walls. As a young mother and new homeowner, it was so disheartening to watch my children destroy my home. Over the years they’ve left pasta sauce stained hand prints on the walls and have also colored on them. They’ve spilled every food imaginable onto the carpets and I’ve tried my best to keep it clean. What I soon realized is that hand prints and spilled milk is a part of childhood.

With time I learned patience and placed my dreams of a pristine home on the back burner. I figured that this time would pass and sure enough it has. The children are older now and more aware of the messes they make. No longer do they look at my walls as a dinner napkins.

This revelation has awakened in me a desire to start sprucing up things around here, starting with a fresh coat of paint. I’ve already painted the upstairs area and am moving on to the bathrooms. I thought it would be nice to share some before an after pictures of my progress on the guest bath. I hope the pictures inspire you to tackle something in your home or encourage you to know that toddlers are not going to be little mess makers forever.
