With the weather starting to cool down I want to encourage more outdoor family activities. We’ve started running the track as a family once a week and have decided to begin BB gun practice in the backyard.
Thanks to Daisy Outdoor Products we will be using, from what I’ve researched, the best BB gun on the market.
We ordered the Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun, the 6000 count BB’s, and a target from Amazon.com to get us started.
Once it arrived, before letting the kids touch the BB Gun we discussed gun safety rules. It surprised me how quiet they were while I went over the rules. I’m sure it was because of how realistic the Daisy Red Ryder looks to being an actual rifle.
After going over the rules, we went outside for some practice. It was late in the evening when it arrived so we didn’t bother with putting up the target being that we only have about 30 minutes of daylight.
I let the kids take turn shooting into the woods, then after we felt comfortable we began using a tree for target practice. Each time they’d aim for the tree, pull the trigger, and wait to hear the clank! of the BB as it hit the tree. They would get so excited when they’d hear the sound of the BB hitting the tree.
We spent the evening taking turns and plan to make this one of our Outdoor Family Activities for the fall and winter months.

Even though the Daisy Red Ryder is recommended for children ages 10 and older I was a bit apprehensive about getting one. My children really surprised me with how well they followed the safety rules. They seemed to understand how dangerous it could be to shoot someone with this airgun and made sure not to pull the trigger unless the shooting range was clear.
Now that we’ve used one first hand we plan to buy one more. I like the fact that Daisy Red Ryder come in the traditional brown but also a pink which is more appealing to girls who like target practice.

I like living in a rural area where we have space to shoot our Red Ryder. I think my oldest daughter would’ve loved having a pink one when she was younger. =) My son and I had a pretty intense discussion when it came to safety of using our bb gun!
