How to Handle Homeschool Burnout - AProverbsWife.com

HomeschoolIt’s that time of year when the weather starts getting nicer, we are past the ½ way mark in school and everyone (even Mom) is feeling “spring fever” or possibly burn out from school.

Anyone who has home schooled their children knows it is hard work!  There are really no short cuts when it comes to our children’s education.  It is also very time consuming and draining.  But there comes a time when a break is really needed.

What do you do when you (the teacher) is feeling overwhelmed, not motivated, burned out, lack of zeal, & just complacent in doing school with our children.

It’s time to take action and find something to revive your heart and attitude about finishing the school year strong.  Let me add that if you are feeling a bit of burn out, I know your kids are feeling it as well.  It’s something that every home school family feels at times.  It’s normal!

Here are some tips to help when you feel burned out with home schooling:

  • PRAY!!!  That is the 1st thing we need to do!  Take it to the Lord and ask God to revive your spirit, give you motivation, & help to finish the year strong.

  • Take the day off.  Yup, just take one day and enjoy doing a field trip or just a day at the park to clear your mind and help inspire your teaching.

  • Plan a once a month teacher’s day.  This can be taken the 1st or last day of the month and this is so you can grade papers, plan, enter grades, do lesson plans.

  • Plan a spring break vacation.  Even if it’s for 3 or 4 days, it will give you and your children time to refresh and time to refocus.

  • Organize a home school get-together.  Connect with other home school families on a Friday after a long week of school and do a party or park day together.  This will also give you time to connect with other moms and share ideas.

  • Do a kids craft day.  This can be a day in the middle of the week that you just do a craft (pinterest has many ideas) and while doing a craft gear it towards learning too.  Something that is different from your normal routine.

  • Find a home school convention.  There are many home schooling conventions around the U.S. that around the end of the school year.  They have many workshops and resources that are available that give you ideas and tips to help in this area.

Sometimes just changing things up a bit helps keep us out of a rut and just gives us an extra jolt to being more creative and motivated.

Home schooling can be over whelming at times, but giving ourselves time to refresh and renew our minds is crucial.  Get into the Word of God and let God fill you, rejuvenate you, & give you the strength to finish up the school year strong!

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
