I have a confession: I sometimes miss my daily bible study.
Occasionally, I slip and forget to pray! I really hate this. I never mean to. Plus, I love bible study! But honestly, from the moment I open my eyes to the moment I close them, I’m moving.
I’m a full-time student, I have a family to care for, elderly grandparents who need me, a novel I’m writing, loved ones to keep up with…need I go on?
I am sure many of my fellow sisters are going through the same thing.
I want to encourage you (as well as myself) not to fall into condemnation. Yes, daily bible study is crucial to us. We must know Gods word so we can know His laws and commandments.
If we do not know Gods commands, we cannot obey Him.
Why is this so important?
“Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” – John 14:21
But still, it’s a struggle! So I decided to comprise some tips for incorporating personal bible study into your daily life. I have sorted it into specific time frames.
For the person who has 45 minutes or more….
Bible studies are awesome! Until a year ago, I didn’t realize I could purchase my own bible study and do it on my own. There are so many amazing ones on Lifeway. Beth Moore is amazing.
Find one that you enjoy and try it out! You don’t have to do them year-round (I like to switch from doing a bible study to studying a book in the bible).
For the person with 30 minutes….
I would recommend reading 1-3 chapters of a certain book in the bible daily. When I am ready to get into a deep study of a book in the bible, I first ask God what He thinks I should study.
Once I do this, I start reading a few chapters a day, often more than once because I try to really absorb it. If this is the route you wish to use, definitely invest in a great study bible! My favorite is by Stephen Miller.
It’s also very affordable, especially for the quality. I really love the New International Version (NIV) for studying the bible.
The Life Application Study Bible is my favorite. I’m not sure how I was studying the bible without it!
